Skyway Monte Bianco is a technological and engineering wonder at 3,500 m among the perennial ice of Monte Bianco. The structure, opened in June of 2015, has three stations: Courmayeur (1,300 m), the starting point; Pavillon du Mont Fréty (2,200 m), the intermediate station that offers various attractions; Punta Helbronner (3,466 m) where you can admire Monte Bianco in all of its grandeur.
The lines of the architecture and the presence of a unique and breathtaking scenery, separated only by enormous windows, led to the realization of curved, broken, continuous or broken lines that, translated into materials, mix with the diffused and bright light that is capable of changing the perception of colors and surfaces.
In order to respect the extraordinary naturalistic value of the area, the design aimed at containing the environmental impact and energy consumption. The main “challenge” consisted in the energy demand of an “extremely high” station like Punta Helbronner. This is why solar panels were developed that are capable of generating maximum power even in extreme conditions. These, combined with the rarefaction of the air, also required the installation of a triple layer of more resistant glass and an in depth study on the sizes and configurations of the photovoltaic generators.
