Florim at the Venice Guggenheim

June 26, 2018

For the third year running, the enchanting garden at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice provided the setting for our cultural event devoted to industry professionals, organized in collaboration with Elle Decor Italia and Guggenheim Intrapresæ.

The focus of the evening was the “AMBIENTI” (ENVIRONMENTS) talk – a title in keeping with the theme of the 2018 Biennale and with our CEDIT installation in Campo Santo Stefano – which explored the concept of architectural space, its boundaries and its dialogue between the public and private spheres, featuring eminent speakers from the international creative and artistic world.

The conversation involved an examination of the “freespace” theme, analyzing it from different points of view more closely related to product design. Projects developed by individual designers were the “tools” that enabled an analysis of the concept of space and spatiality.

Andrea Anastasio, a designer and artist, discussed recent and older projects, emphasizing how studying different countries’ habits, including those of very distant countries, has influenced the creation of his objects in which “the private and public spheres often converge”.

The Zanellato/Bortotto firm’s work is more emotional: its projects address different aspects of the theme of Venice, the hometown of the two young designers, Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto. Household objects and furniture designed by the firm take inspiration from the public space and aim to “arouse sensory emotions” (particularly in terms of sight and smell) that allow you to relive the atmosphere of the lagoon city, just like the Storie collection designed for CEDIT.

Zaven, the firm that designed the Rilievi collection for CEDIT, takes analysis of people’s movement and signs left in space as its creative starting point: the two designers (whose research is focused on the interaction between communication, design and art) transform these “signs” and make them three-dimensional, focusing on an “open dimension”.

The talk explored many aspects relating to the idea of space, of the object – which increasingly now has a purpose that is not merely functional but also emotional – and of material, interconnected elements that generate new approaches to design.

The event was preceded by the guests’ visit to our temporary “AMBIENTI” installation (open until 8th July), which presents five collections by the CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia brand designed by Formafantasma, Giorgio Griffa, Franco GuerzoniZanellato/Bortotto and Zaven
