The 132-136 West Houston St. project created in New York by the SWA architecture studio with Florim surfaces received the “Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition Award 2019” (in the “residential” category), the annual award that rewards innovative use of Italian tiles in architecture and design in North America.
Located on Houston Street, one of the main streets of Lower Manhattan, this eight-story building is immediately striking for its strong visual impact: modern and essential but at the same time elegant. Protagonists of interior spaces and external cladding (ventilated façade, terraces, rooftop and backyard) are numerous collections made by Florim in different brands. The chosen surfaces perfectly reflect the design of the urban context in which they are inserted: eclectic for interior spaces and minimal for interior environments. The materials chosen for the project – with a focus on large porcelain slabs – range from the Casa dolce casa – Casamood brand (Wooden Tile series), Floor Gres (B&W series, Industrial and Styletech),CEDIT – Ceramiche d’Italia (Matrice), Rex (I Classici).
Sponsored by Confindustria Ceramica and the ICE Italian Trade Agency, the Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition reached the 26th edition this year and collected over 50 projects in different categories (Residential, Institutional, Commercial and Student). The international jury composed of experts from the design industry has declared the Florim project 132-136 West Houston St. winner of the residential category.
