A Centre dedicated to training, research and advanced medical simulation was created in the heart of the Florim location at Fiorano Modenese in 2014.

The center

The Centre is more than 600 square metres in area and contains a lecture theatre able to seat over 100 people and a number of classrooms for seminars and lessons. Its nerve centre is the sophisticated control room available to Medical and Paramedical staff. State-of-the-art technology enables the control of humanoids that reproduce human functions: a unique opportunity for keeping health workers’ skills up to date.

The Advanced Medical Simulation centre and professional training activities for health care workers are managed by Ospedale di Sassuolo S.p.A and its professionals, from their design and realisation through to “Continuing medical education” accreditation.

It is the first centre in Italy within a private corporation to be certified by the American Heart Association.

HEALTH EVENTS

These are meetings open to the community, on the culture of prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

AHA CERTIFIED TRAINING

BLS heartsaver (basic life support for non-professionals), BLS (basic life support for health professionals), ACLS (advanced cardiovascular life support) and PALS (paediatric advanced life support) courses.

ADVANCED MEDICAL SIMULATION

Neonatal resuscitation, obstetric emergencies and paediatric emergencies.

TECHNICAL TRAINING

Good practice in adult venous accesses.

SPECIALIST TRAINING

WHO/Unicef training course on breast-feeding for health professionals, practical course on venous accesses in children and newborns, foetal cardiotocographic monitoring during labour, labour induction.

Health Events

The Centre Scientific Committee – consisting of Ospedale di Sassuolo S.p.A. medical personnel – has drawn up a programme of bi-monthly meetings entitled “Incontri della Salute” (Health Events).

All meetings are led by doctors with expertise in the various topics, who answer the many questions from the audience at the end of their talks. Since its opening the Centre hosted 42 meetings on a variety of topics.

Healthcare discounts for Florim employees

The project also includes a major welfare programme for all Florim employees and their family members, entitling them to discounts for specialist examinations and outpatient diagnostic tests performed on a private basis.

Free Screenings

Florim, in collaboration with Sassuolo Hospital S.p.A, offers free screenings to its employees. Over the past few years, three different screening projects have been promoted:

Florim adds a pink comma

With the “Florim adds a pink comma” project, the company, in collaboration with Sassuolo Hospital S.p.A., has offered and encouraged all female employees to take part in a screening to prevent the most common cardiovascular and gynecological diseases. The results achieved are remarkable: 191 cardiological visits and 182 gynecological visits with subsequent follow-ups have made it possible to detect, in some cases, the initial stages of tumors that, without this preventive activity, could have degenerated and seriously compromised the health of the patients.

Alfa Salus

In 2023, all male employees over the age of 50 were invited to take part in the initiative for the diagnosis of this carcinoma, the most frequent in men. The campaign – promoted by FLORIM together with Sassuolo Hospital – received 125 requests. The name chosen for this screening initiative has an explicit meaning: “ALFA” (άλφα, alpha) is the first letter of the ancient Greek alphabet; “SALUS” indicates the deity of health in Roman religion. “Alfa Salus” thus conveys the message of a cutting-edge project for the promotion of the health of FLORIM people, putting the concept of prevention first.

The centre’s history

It all began in 2010, when Florim decided to purchase the first defibrillators to upgrade its in-house safety and prevention equipment and started a partnership with Ospedale di Sassuolo S.p.A. for the training of its staff. At the same time, the Lucchese Family and Florim established the Fondazione Ing. Giovanni Lucchese (named after the founder of Floor Gres and today’s Florim) to honour his memory and, amongst other aims, to support projects to aid the community and families in need. It was only a short step from the Fondazione to the Florim Health&Training project, and thanks to the partnership built up over the years between the company and the hospital, the idea arose of dedicating space on the corporate premises to the training of doctors and paramedics and meetings on various health-related topics, open to local residents.

April 2014 | The Centre was officially opened, with the relative press conference. Thanks to a sophisticated control room and two very high-tech dummies (baby and child), the Centre began to train doctors, nurses and midwives in the management of real emergencies. At the same time, meetings to promote healthy lifestyles, open to the local community, also began.

May 2017 | The ‘Santa Maria Nuova’ IRCCS Teaching Hospital Trust and the Reggio Emilia Health District Trust signed an agreement with Ospedale di Sassuolo S.p.A to use the Florim Health&Training Centre.

April 2019 | The Centre acquired two more state-of-the-art dummies to simulate problems affecting women in labour and adults. It thus became the first centre in Italy to install the latest generation of the entire advanced Accurate-Gaumard “family of humanoids” presented at the “Simulation World Championships” in Texas in January 2019.

2019 | The Modena University Hospital Trust signed an agreement with Ospedale di Sassuolo S.p.A to use the Florim Health&Training Centre.

2020 | Health events go digital too

2023 | Renewal of the agreement between Florim and Sassuolo Hospital S.p.A. after 10 years of collaboration
