Research and development of innovative high-resistance ceramic products made using alternative raw materials through a process designed to reduce carbon emissions.

Within Florim’s ongoing technological evolution, research plays a key role in the development of innovative materials and increasingly efficient production models from both a manufacturing and energy perspective.

In this context, the project developed thanks to funding promoted by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, as part of the Sustainable Growth Fund, focuses on the research and development of ceramic products made with alternative raw materials and solutions aimed at the reduction of emissions associated with the production process.

The research activities systematically involved the entire production process, addressing in an integrated way the main challenges related to the decarbonisation of the sector: from body formulation to firing processes.

Among the most significant results are the development of innovative low-carbonate body compositions, the introduction of optimised firing cycles designed to reduce energy demand, and the production of ultra-thin slabs capable of ensuring technical and functional performance aligned with market needs. At the same time, the project also explored solutions dedicated to the capture and potential reuse of CO₂ generated during industrial processes.
