We measure, act and support.

Florim CarbonAction was created as an evolution of the CarbonZero project and expands its approach, focusing on a path that integrates emissions measurement, process improvement and support for climate projects registered under international standards. An evolution that makes Florim’s commitment even clearer and more transparent.

We measure emissions. We act on processes. We support climate projects.

We are a B Corp and integrate social and environmental impact objectives into our business management.

We measure

We calculate the CO₂eq emissions associated with the life cycle of the surfaces based on the available environmental data, considering the different stages of the product: from production to the end of its life cycle.

To date, the calculation has been based on an average reference EPD value*. To make the measurement more precise, we are developing an approach based on specific EPDs for the different surface thicknesses. This will provide more representative environmental data and refine the calculation of emissions across the different stages of the product life cycle.

We act

We invest in technologies and initiatives focused on energy efficiency and the self-generation of energy from renewable sources.

At the same time, we pursue projects for water recovery, the reuse of production waste and the research of new solutions based on the use of recovered materials in our products.

We support

In addition to interventions on processes, for the collections included in the program we voluntarily support renewable energy generation projects registered under international standards**.

This activity is separate from the interventions carried out on production processes and neither eliminates nor neutralizes the emissions associated with the collections, nor does it change the value of the calculated emissions.

(*) EPD-certified data – registration number EPDITALY0462
(**) offsetting takes place through the purchase of CER (Certified Emission Reductions) carbon credits on the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism - Project ID 1259) registry of the UNFCC (United Nations Framework for Climate Change) and on the VCS - VERRA registry (project IDs 1753, 1582 and 2059).
For the calculation, a value of 19.05 kg of CO2-eq / m2 was used, with an average density of 21.97 kg/m2 – calculated from the GWP total value (Florim EPD, which considers the product’s entire life cycle), including maintenance and cleaning activities and assuming a 60-year service life.
Florim is committed each year to monitoring, reducing and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions associated with the CarbonAction Collections

FAQ

A carbon credit represents the reduction or removal of one tonne of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere. Certified carbon credits are a tool used by companies in climate change mitigation strategies to offset residual greenhouse gas emissions. “Certified” carbon credits (certified by a third-party body) are the only ones that result in the actual offsetting of greenhouse gas emissions. Purchasing carbon credits therefore means supporting regenerative environmental projects.

Florim purchases CER (Certified Emission Reductions) “carbon credits” from the CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) registry of the UNFCC (United Nations Framework for Climate Change). Each credit represents the reduction or removal of one tonne of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Florim has chosen to support projects that generate renewable energy, in line with a corporate strategy that embraces a business model aimed at benefiting the planet (Florim is the first ceramic manufacturer to be certified as a B Corp). Renewable energy is the solution for accelerating the phase-out of fossil fuels. This also means investing in and helping developing countries address the energy transition.

Florim has chosen to support two wind farms in India: Enercon Wind Farm (Hindustan) Ltd in Karnataka (CDM Project ID 1259) and Wind Grouped project by Hero Future Energies Private Limited (VCS - VERRA project ID 1582). In addition, two renewable solar photovoltaic energy projects located in India: Bundled Solar Photovoltaic Project (VCS - VERRA project ID 1753) and Renewable Solar Power Project by Mahindra Renewables Private Limited (VCS - VERRA project ID 2059).
