Furniture and design: 5 ideas for your luxury projects

Interculturality of luxury

The interpretation of the luxury concept, as well as of the style, takes on different nuances depending on the culture and traditions of the countries referred to: if in Europe, for example, a minimalist aesthetic with rational forms is broadly preferred, in Arab countries, tastes tend towards preciousness and opulence.

The luxury of design

Today, the luxury furniture and design market enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. Aimed at a high-end target, it focuses on the exclusivity of the creations, on the quality of the products and on the reliability of the services offered: brand, aesthetics, excellence, uniqueness, elegance, details and performance are the elements which distinguish an ordinary type of design from the luxury one.

The frenetic rhythms to which we are subjected in contemporary society lead us, in fact, to conceive of furniture and design no longer as merely functional to the liveability of spaces, but as a real source of psychophysical well-being. Luxury furnishing and design solutions are often preferred so that the designed spaces acquire particular emotional values and represent an ideal condition of regenerating comfort.

Custom-made furniture and interior design

In the panorama of luxury, the taste and needs of the client take on a key role, making tailor-made a requirement. Therefore, companies producing materials for furniture and design respond by proposing solutions which can guarantee the optimisation of spaces through the integration and customisation of the furnishings within their projects. Think, for example, of the evolution of service areas such as bathrooms – nowadays a real oasis of relaxation with bathroom fixtures and integrated furnishings coordinated with walls and floors – or kitchens which, with the coverings of the worktops and furniture, appear as elegant islands carved in a single block of material.

5 ideas for your luxury projects

Luxury design reserves performance beyond expectations and needs and, through unique solutions, involves the senses and expresses conditions of well-being. But how does luxury come about based on stylistic influences? Below we’ll analyse some contemporary luxury trends supported by as many creations.

1- Essential luxury

The private home built in Houston Street (NY) by the studio SWA Architecture is a project in which luxury is to be found in the continuity of the rooms, in the sobriety of the materials used for the composition and in the harmonious combination of colours. The design and the furnishings are modern and informal: few essential but high-quality elements which, in dialogue with each other, create a temple of light, peace and elegance.

2- Eccentric luxury

In opposition to the minimal style of the above point we find the example of the Hotel R-KISS.UNITED DAYS, by Studio THREE Interior Design. Here the polished marble-effect floors are combined with traditional elements – such as doors and windows – and colourful POP furnishings: a play of very bold contrasts which, however, conveys a fun atmosphere suitable for leisure situations.

3- Industrial luxury

The Loft is Loft project, created by Martin Architects in Kiev (UA) in a newly built building, echoes the industrial style of the first New York lofts. The open space environment, the large glass and steel windows and the exposed red brickwork walls evoke the architecture for industrial production which, combined with the wood-effect porcelain stoneware floors of their domestic dimension, give life to an industrial, elegant and comfortable space.

4- Classic luxury

The luxurious German private residence designed by the Mikolajska studio exhibits an exclusive style, an interpretation of modernity according to the classical canons. The internal surface coatings are inspired by refined natural materials such as marble and the most precious woods. Furniture and furnishings are covered in porcelain stoneware to give material continuity. The latter, made with a traditional design, create an unmistakable atmosphere with a classic style, timeless and with a strong decorative impact.

5- Contemporary luxury

It is the style of those environments designed for aesthetic enjoyment understood in the classical sense and mediated through the taste and functionality of contemporary design elements. In the Penthouse One-11 project by Rudi Manfrin the space becomes total and the materials used for the furniture and interior design become the absolute protagonists of the composition. Coverings and furnishings are treated without interruption by combining natural materials – such as oak – with oversized slabs in marble-like stoneware which embellish the environment with their brightness and define a style in harmony between naturalness and technicality.
